CODING

In my personal work, I have explored the relationship that written code and generative techniques have with type and visuals.

I questioned how this could impact my cultural work. My objective was to make generative type and visual pieces inspired by a selection of Irish poetry and music.

The first piece references a poem by Tom Atkinson utilising the line ‘Mighty Ocean Waves’. In reference to the sea, the mouse acts as a vehicle that steers around the typography, forcing the words to move in an improvisational manner like that of crashing waves. The words switch by the click of a mouse. The user has ability to manipulate the text within the constraints as they see fit, providing engagement and playfulness with the poetry.

The second was a piano piece. In contrast, the user cannot manipulate this visual and is delicate in structure. The circular movements overlap eachother as the piece builds.
